Drydocks World Dubai Delivers Hugin A Wellbay Module for North Sea
Drydocks World Dubai, one of the leading shipyards in the Middle East, has strengthened its presence in the offshore construction sector with the completion of the Hugin A Wellbay Module, destined for the Aker BP ASA-operated Yggdrasil development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Weighing 2000 tonnes and comprising three fully integrated decks, the offshore module has been fabricated to NORSOK specifications, ensuring readiness for the demanding conditions of the North Sea oil and gas sector.
The project involved connecting extensive cable systems, coating large surface areas, installing advanced piping infrastructure and achieving full operational integration. A statement from the shipyard noted: “This achievement reflects the complexity and precision involved in modern offshore construction.”
The completion was marked by a ceremony at the Dubai shipyard attended by senior Drydocks World executives along with partners from Aker Solutions and Aker BP ASA.
Safety remains a critical factor in offshore fabrication projects and Drydocks World has recently enhanced its training capabilities with the launch of Mixed Reality (MR) training for mobile elevated working platforms. This addition to its immersive learning portfolio builds on the success of its existing Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality programmes, combining physical movement with digital simulation to deliver what the company describes as “a deeply engaging and realistic learning experience.”
According to Drydocks World: “By simulating high-risk scenarios in a controlled environment, the training enables our workforce to improve operational accuracy, recognise hazards more effectively and build confidence in real-world conditions. This approach enhances safety outcomes, boosts knowledge retention and strengthens everyday safety across our operations.”
