Drydocks World, a subsidiary of ADNOC Dubai and a key player in the Middle East’s maritime industry, has co-founded the Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA) — a pioneering international coalition of leading shipyards committed to accelerating maritime decarbonisation and adopting sustainable practices across global operations.
As a founding member, Drydocks World will play a central role in shaping the alliance’s strategy to fast-track clean technology adoption, enhance environmental performance, and establish unified sustainability standards across member shipyards. This initiative reinforces Dubai’s position as a global hub for green maritime innovation and responsible shipping services.
The GGSA includes major international shipyard players such as Astilleros Shipyard Group (Spain), BREDO Dry Docks (Germany), and IMC Shipyard Services Group, which operates shipyards in Singapore, China, and Thailand. The alliance aims to foster collaborative development, drive innovation, and share best practices across regions, particularly in maritime centers such as the Middle East, India, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
By championing technologies such as hybrid propulsion systems, energy-efficient retrofits, digital optimisation, and carbon emissions compliance, the GGSA seeks to deliver scalable environmental solutions for the shipping and shipbuilding sectors.
Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World, said: “The formation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the maritime industry’s decarbonisation journey. At Drydocks World, we are proud to be a founding member of this important initiative and to collaborate with our global counterparts to advance more sustainable, efficient practices across the sector.”
The GGSA marks the third major environmental coalition in which DP World is actively involved, following its participation in the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA) and the First Movers Coalition. ZEPA works to make battery-electric container handling equipment both affordable and scalable, while the First Movers Coalition leverages collective buying power to catalyze investment in zero-emission technologies.
These initiatives collectively demonstrate the UAE’s growing leadership in maritime innovation and commitment to a cleaner, greener shipping future.
