The Maritime Standard Awards showcases excellence across the shipping, ports and maritime sector. The eighth in the annual series took place on Monday November 22nd at the World Trade Centre Dubai, and like the others celebrated the achievements of the industry’s top performers with style and panache. Once again the quality of the event and the level of attendance demonstrated clearly why it is now unquestionably the leading awards ceremony for the maritime sector in the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent.

This year, more than 800 executives, including delegations from Saudi Arabia, India, Oman, Kuwait, Asia and Europe, assembled to witness the presentation of 29 different Awards, and enjoy the top quality entertainment.

Held for the eighth year in a row under the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline, the Awards were hosted by well-known comedian and impressionist, Jon Culshaw. Past MCs have included Alistair Campbell, Ruud Gullitt, Tim Wilcox and Lara Dutta.

Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi – CEO, ADNOC Logistics & Services, delivered the keynote speech, with the Reverend Andy Bowerman of the Mission for Seafarers saying a special blessing before guests enjoyed the three course gala dinner.

In total 20 awards were presented to individuals and companies following the deliberations of the judging panel. In addition there were a number of special awards presented by TMS for particularly impressive levels of performance over many years.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi was honoured with The Maritime Standard Visionary Award and industry veteran Captain Jimmy Sarb was inducted to the TMS Hall of Fame. The Maritime Standard Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Saudi Arabia’s Musaed Bin Abdulrahman Al Drees; The Personality of the Year Award was given to Mrs. H K Joshi of the Shipping Corporation of India; The Excellence Award went to HE Omar bin Talal Hariri of Saudi Ports Authority; while the Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Ibrahim Al Nadhairi, for his achievements at ASYAD.

Other awards selected by The Maritime Standard included Shehara de Silva of Maclarens, who was the recipient of the Woman in Shipping award, and Shoaib Seedat, of Tomini Shipping, who was named Young Person in Shipping. The winner of the Deal of the Year was Abu Dhabi Marine Services-Safeen, while CSP Abu Dhabi Terminals was presented with the Editor’s Choice Award.

The TMS Awards evenings attract all of the region’s key decision makers, including chairmen, chief executives and directors from leading shipping companies, ports, terminal operators and maritime companies and organisations. Attendees come not just from across the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent, but globally as well.

Work is already well underway in preparation for The Maritime Standard Awards 2022 They will take place on Tuesday November 15th in Dubai at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai.

The date and location of the seventh annual The Maritime Standard Tanker Conference has now been confirmed. The event will take place on Wednesday 16th November 2022 and will return to the popular and iconic The Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai, where it was held for a number of years pre-pandemic, building up a loyal following.

The 2022 Tanker conference, which will have a packed programme of expert presentations and lively panel discussions, will have the theme of “Reshaping the Market – Tanker Shipping Post-pandemic.” This reflects the importance of recognising the significant challenges that still exist as a result of the impact of Covid and the long-lasting effects it will have on so many aspects of the tanker shipping business.

The 2022 Conference will focus on key short- and long-term commercial and technology trends in the crude, products, chemicals, and gas tanker markets. Attendees will get the chance to hear from leading figures in the tanker business presenting their assessments of the key issues. As well as topics relating to tanker ship owning and operating, the event will also look at key support sectors, such as classification, bunker supply, law, ship agency and supplies, ship technology, logistics and terminal handling and storage.
