Caterpillar subsidiary MaK Middle East has opened a new branch in Fujairah, as part of its strategy for reaching a wider range of customers within the UAE.
In addition, the company is also now officially registered in Hamriyah Freezone, Mina Khalid and Khor Fakkan, enabling the delivery of marine engine and turbocharger related services in these three Sharjah ports.
MaK Middle East already has a presence in Dubai Maritime City and has been increasing staffing levels across the UAE in response to customer demand. The company provides factory-direct product support services in the Middle East region for Caterpillar’s MaK, CM and EMD brands of medium speed marine and industrial engines. In all of the new locations, MAK Middle East will also offer a comprehensive range of turbocharger maintenance, overhaul, repair, upgrading and modification options. The company points out that its turbocharger service engineers and technicians are trained and certified at the Napier factory in Lincoln in the UK and the KBB factory in Bannewitz, Germany.
The presence in Fujairah is expected to be beneficial, not only to local MaK-powered vessel owners, but also to customers transiting through the Middle East and using the Fujairah anchorage. Alan Naisby, managing director of MaK Middle East, says, “We have identified a high volume of MaK powered vessels docking in Fujairah and we want to be closer to our customers to ensure we can provide high quality factory engine service where the customer needs it in an efficient, effective and timely way.” The recently expanded EMD service team in Dubai is said to be experienced in providing service work on rigs and vessels in the Middle East, including Dubai, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The addition of the Sharjah ports is expected to expand the team’s service delivery reach in the region.
