The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has once again won Category B Membership on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, beating competition from 11 other leading countries in the field of international maritime trade, including Germany, Sweden, Brazil, Argentina, France and Australia. The UAE was declared the winner of the election conducted during the 31st General Assembly Meeting, which was held in London.
The win underlines the UAE’s ability to play a pivotal and influential role in efforts to promote the international maritime system and drive more growth within global maritime trade. The country promises to take a proactive approach in this context.
Speaking after the UAE’s success in securing a second term on the council, FTA H.E. Dr. Abdullah Balhaif Al Nuaimi, chairman of the FTA -Land & Maritime, said that the UAE plans to develop and expand local ports with vestments worth over AED 157 billion over the next few years.
