Aqaba advances digital transformation and trade growth
Aqaba’s port community recorded solid operational momentum during the five months January to May 2026, with non-container cargo increasing 11.2%, to 10.36 million tons compared with the equivalent months in 2025. The increase was led by strong performance at Aqaba’s Oil Port, with volumes up 55.15%, and Aqaba New Port, where traffic was up 38.0% to 2.605 million tons compared with the same period of the year before.
Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT)’s container throughput remained broadly stable at 386,303 TEU, while the volume of transit containers increased 126.2%, highlighting Aqaba’s growing role as a regional trade gateway.
Passenger activity also improved, with ferry passengers rising 17.5% to 161,000.
In an important development for the Aqaba Port community, Noatum Ports – Maqta Ayla Digital Solutions, a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), has been launched to develop and operate a Port Community System (PCS). The project aims to enhance digital integration and facilitate information exchange among port users, the container terminal, relevant authorities, and all other stakeholders, contributing to increased operational and logistical efficiency in Aqaba.
In addition, the joint venture is delivering a truck management project at the port of Aqaba, by deploying advanced digital solutions that connect relevant entities through a unified digital window. This will contributes to streamlining procedures and expediting the issuance of necessary permits, while raising the efficiency of road haulage services across the port city.
