AD Ports Group secures 30-year Aqaba port concession
AD Ports Group has signed a 30-year concession agreement with Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) to manage and operate the Aqaba Multipurpose Port, strengthening its global ports and logistics network and expanding its footprint in the Middle East maritime sector.
The agreement establishes a joint venture to oversee management and operations at the Jordanian port, with AD Ports Group holding a 70% ownership stake and Aqaba Development Corporation retaining the remaining 30%. Under the terms of the deal, AD Ports Group will invest a total of AED 141 million (US$ 38.4 million) in terminal development, alongside deploying its port management, infrastructure optimisation and operational expertise. The Group anticipates formally assuming operations of the facility in August of this year.
The Aqaba Multipurpose Port handles a diverse mix of cargo types, including general cargo, grain shipments, livestock transport, roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vehicles and project cargo. The terminal offers an annual handling capacity of 11 million tonnes and is supported by nine berths comprising a 2km long quay with a draft of 13.5m, enabling it to accommodate a wide range of vessel types. In 2025, the facility handled more than 5.3 million tonnes of cargo and nearly 85,000 car equivalent units (CEUs) of ro-ro imports, underlining its importance as a regional maritime logistics hub.
With the addition of Aqaba Multipurpose Port, AD Ports Group is expanding its global portfolio to 35 ports and terminals, including assets in the UAE, Jordan, Spain, Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Tanzania, Angola and the Republic of the Congo. This latest agreement represents a strategic move that further reinforces the Group’s position as an international port operator and logistics infrastructure developer, while also specifically increasing its presence in the Jordanian maritime sector.
