Svitzer Saham, the fifth in a series of powerful new tugs, has started operations at the port of Sohar in Oman. The new vessel will be operated by the global towage services provider Svitzer, and used to handle growing volumes of STS traffic, as well as larger numbers of bigger ships calling here.
The tug has an 80t bollard pull rating and will join two sisters, Svitzer Sohar and Svitzer Shinas, alongside two earlier deliveries of the 50t bollard pull Svitzer Liwa and Svitzer Barka. The arrival of Svitzer Saham at Port of Sohar concludes Svitzer’s current fleet development programme agreed as part of the 15 year renewal of a marine services contract, awarded in early 2019.
Sohar Port and Logistics has also recently entered into a land lease agreement with Al Buraimi Elite Trading. This will be used for a logistics project to import and re-export light vehicles and heavy equipment through the port.
