
Saudi Ports Record Strong Trade Growth in October 2025
Ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) recorded a 12.19% increase in container throughput during October 2025, handling 709,393 TEU compared to 632,323 TEU in the same month last year. Transshipment container movements saw a strong surge of 38.68%, rising to 179,283 TEU from 129,274 TEU year-on-year. Import containers increased to 273,751 TEU, while export containers climbed to 127,844 TEU, reflecting continued growth in Saudi Arabia’s maritime trade activity.
Total cargo tonnage handled across Mawani’s network of ports, including general cargo, dry bulk and liquid bulk, rose by 6.93%, reaching 21.8 million tons compared to 20.39 million tons during the same period last year. Within this total, general cargo accounted for 1.28 million tons, dry bulk reached 4.35 million tons, and liquid bulk traffic increased to 16.18 million tons, underscoring strong performance across all segments.
Vessel traffic also rose by 5.61%, with 1,035 ships calling at Saudi ports during October 2025, compared to 980 ships in the same month of the previous year. The continued rise in vessel arrivals and cargo volumes highlights Mawani’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency, capacity and global competitiveness across the Kingdom’s Red Sea and Arabian Gulf gateways.
