Steady progress is being made towards the restoration of normal operations at the port of Salalah, following the damage and disruption caused by cyclone Mekunu, which hit towards the end of May.
Major customer, Maersk Line, has praised the ‘remarkable grit’ of its team in Oman, and employees of the port authority, in recovering from the aftermath of the cylone. It says that productivity is progressively improving and the terminal is currently operating without any restrictions at three mainline berths and at one mainline berth with some restrictions. Operations have also been restored at one of Salalah’s feeder berths.
As a result of the improvements made almost all of Maersk Line’s planned vessel calls are into Salalah now being made over the coming week, although one vessel, Maersk Eureka will omit Salalah and sail directly to Tanjung Pelepas.
