Jeddah’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has taken delivery of new container handling equipment designed to speed up landside operations. The investment, worth around SAR 1 billion, follows the signing in December 2019 of a new 30-year concession contract between RSGT and the Saudi Port Authority (Mawani) to redevelop and modernise the Northern part of Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP).
The latest delivery includes 50 terminal tractors and trailer sets, which are equipped with the latest safety features. RSGT expects that the new handling hardware will contribute to increasing productivity and performance at JIP.
Red Sea Gateway Terminal is the first container terminal in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia built by the private sector under a build, operate, and transfer (BOT) agreement. It claims to be the only terminal at the port capable of accommodating very large new generation container vessels of more than 20,000 teu capacity.
