State-owned Oman Shipping Company (OSC) has in recent weeks taken delivery of two new VLCC tankers in a move that further strengthens its fleet. The 300,000 dwt Sur was the latest to arrive following on from the sister vessel, Bahla, which was also built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). As a result, Oman Shipping now operates a total of 18 VLCCs. A further similar vessel is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2021, reinforcing the company’s position as one of the world’s leading operators of VLCC tonnage.
All three VLCCs are 336m long and 60m wide and have been designed to meet future global environmental requirements. The trio feature efficient engine and fuel-saving technologies and are also outfitted with open loop scrubbers.
