Sri Lanka Shipping (SLS), part of the Advantis Group, has recently celebrated the arrival of two new harbour tugs, further expanding its local fleet, with a naming ceremony for Aquarius and Capricorn. According to SLS, “These tugs mark a significant enhancement to our operational capabilities and are ready to provide exceptional service to our clients at the Port of Colombo.”
The two new Damen ASD 2312 tugs were built at the Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. Speaking at the naming ceremony, Ruwan Waidyaratne, the Managing Director of the Advantis Group, said, “With their advanced capabilities, these vessels are equipped to handle more complex manoeuvres, delivering superior precision in port operations. This investment not only strengthens Advantis’ ability to support the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) but also contributes to more streamlined and efficient port services, solidifying our role as a key partner in the development of the nation’s maritime infrastructure.”
SLS selected the 23m ASD Tug 2312 type based on its 70 tonnes bollard pull and high levels of manoeuvrability. Additional technical factors in the decision included the tugs’ versatility together with their digital connectivity, fuel efficiency and low emissions. SLS also opted for Damen’s Triton remote monitoring system to ensure maximum efficiency and minimum downtime.
