MaK Middle East, a division of the engine maker, Caterpillar, has officially opened a new facility at Dubai Maritime City. This will focus on supplying parts and services for Caterpillar’s medium speed engine brands MaK, CM and EMD in the Middle East. Activities will include engine maintenance and servicing, both in the workshop and onboard vessels berthing and trading in the region. It will also be a base for the supply of spare parts and components which can be used on repair, maintenance, upgrade and refurbishment operations.
“The Middle East maritime market is very competitive and that’s why we are keen on bringing our factory’s know-how to the region to better serve our clients, build customer satisfaction and ensure new MaK, CM and EMD engine sales,” commented Alan Naisby, managing director of MaK Middle East and MaK Asia. “We are proud to establish this new office and workshop in Dubai Maritime City to expand the business model we have successfully deployed over the last 8 years with MaK Asia based in Shanghai and Singapore.”
The company’s latest workshop in Dubai is equipped with high-quality machines that can deliver effective component overhauls. It also serves as the base for the MaK Middle East’s factory trained service engineering team, which is now providing a wide range of marine engine and related services, including troubleshooting, repairs and scheduled overhauls. Service exchange components are stocked at the DMC facility, while new parts will be held in the Jebel Ali free trade zone.
To begin with the DMC facility will employ a team of 16 trained marine engineers with back-up coming from Singapore and the UK as required. MaK Middle East is the only factory authorised distribution operation for MaK, CM and EMD brands in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.
