Sohar Port has received the ISPO (International Standard for Maritime Pilot Organisations) certificate from Lloyds Register. As such it becomes only the 21st ISPO certified port worldwide.
According to chief executive, Mark Geilenkirchen, “Sohar Port continues to enhance the quality of services provided by maritime pilots at the port. The ISPO certification is a quality and safety management system for pilots and pilot organisations, similar to ISO, and ensures a continuous improvement cycle. Additionally, it provides self-regulation and transparency in pilotage standards to all port related stakeholders.”
Sohar has recently taken delivery of two new pilot boats, Svitzer Majan and Al Bateel. These are being operated under a management agreement by the AP Moller subsidiary, Svitzer.
