India’s AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a green hydrogen and low-carbon fuel supply chain between India and Northwestern Europe via Rotterdam. This collaboration is set to play a key role in advancing the global energy transition, while strengthening clean fuel trade between Asia and Europe.
The MoU outlines the supply of bunkering fuels, an analysis of requirements for terminal infrastructure development in Rotterdam, and along the broader supply chain leading to Europe. The initiative will support the safe distribution of hydrogen-based fuels and products, and will link India’s Net Zero Industrial Clusters to the European market.
The envisaged green supply chain will have the capacity to enable exports of up to 1 million tons of hydrogen-based fuels annually, facilitating trade valued at up to US$ 1 billion per year between the two economies. It will include critical infrastructure to support green ammonia, green methanol, and other low-carbon energy solutions.
“We are delighted to collaborate with AM Green to further strengthen our commitment to the energy transition. This agreement marks an important step towards establishing a robust supply chain for low-carbon fuels and chemicals. With India’s vast potential for green hydrogen production, combined with Rotterdam’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure, the collaboration will lead to a robust and sustainable green energy supply chain between the two regions.”
— Boudewijn Siemons, CEO, Port of Rotterdam Authority
This initiative not only strengthens Rotterdam’s position as Europe’s largest energy port, but also elevates India’s role as a major global exporter of renewable fuels, supporting mutual goals for decarbonisation, clean energy adoption, and maritime sustainability across Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.
