
On the 19th of February 2017, the Middle East branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) celebrated its awards night, recognising the achievements of its students. Those students with the highest score in their exams for each subject were presented with an award on behalf of the ICS membership. Two of the branch students also won awards at the Institute’s global awards ceremony for their outstanding performance.
Suresh Nautiyal and Rajshekhar won awards for three subjects each while Rajshekhar bagged the overall award. Other prize winners included Adina Curt, Syed Sadiq, Fatemah Rahmati, Joe Anselvam, Lalindu Jayawickrama, Luke Corera, Karthikeyan Ramalingam, Elena Durin and Algernon Rothwell.
Currently, the ICS Middle East branch has 298 members and had 709 students sitting exams during 2014-16.
The 2016 awards night was compered by Master of Ceremonies, Ali Canani, and H.E. Khamis Juma Khamis Buamim was the guest of honour. He addressed the audience on the demeanor that an organisation must pursue at times of financial instability. He highlighted the words ‘innovate’, ‘invent’ and ‘transform’ as strategies to overcome challenges and said that tough market conditions offered opportunities to those who think outside the box. His inspiring address left the audience with plenty of food for thought.
