Construction has started on the Nhava Sheva Business Park (NSBP) Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Mumbai. The investment is being made by Hindustan Infralog Private Limited (HIPL), a joint venture between DP World, which has a 65% stake, and India’s National Investment & Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) which holds the remaining 35%. HIPL was created to invest up to US$ 3 billion in ports, logistics and related sectors across the country.
The FTZ is located 5 km from JNPT port and will comprise around 1 million ft2 of covered storage area together with other cargo handling facilities. The new zone, expected to be completed in 12 to 14 months, will be equipped with multi-product and temperature-controlled warehouses, and will have a container yard equipped with modern digital and security systems.
Its strategic location, close to the largest container port in India, the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and the National Highways network, is expected to provide quick and direct access to domestic and global markets. Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director, Subcontinent, DP World, said “We are delighted to build the Free Trade Zone in such a strategic location. This reinforces DP World’s commitment to India and strengthens our integrated logistics portfolio in the country. We are further committed to complete this project in a record time and have it operational towards the end of 2021.”
