
The recently held TMS Tanker Conference in Dubai was chosen by Gulf Navigation as the opportunity to sign an important chemical tanker newbuilding deal with China’s Wuchang Ship Heavy Industry Group. The investment aims to meet the increasing demand for transporting chemicals from the UAE and other GCC countries to global markets.
The signing ceremony was witnessed at the TMS Tanker Conference by H.E Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al-Khalifa, chairman of Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard; H.E. Hani Al Hamli, secretary general of the Dubai Economic Council; Eng. Rashed Al Hebsi, chief executive of Tasneef; Ali Shehab Ahmed, deputy chief executive of KOTC, and H.E. Aydin Al Aftan, president of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association.
Khamis Juma Buamim, managing director and group chief executive of Gulf Navigation, said: “This partnership with Wuchang Heavy Industry Group is a significant step that will enable us to strengthen the company’s capabilities, by expanding our fleet with modern and advanced tankers. This will enhance our competitiveness in the transport of chemicals, a market that is steadily expanding and is witnessing increasing demand.”
Gulf Navigation, which envisages a long term strategic arrangement with the Wuchang Group, has signed an agreement to immediately begin building six MR2 type chemicals tankers at Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry, part of the China Shipbuilding Industries Corporation (CSIC).
Gulf Navigation Holding and its group of companies currently own and operate a fleet of eight chemical tankers. It is the only maritime and shipping company listed on the Dubai Financial Market.
