Dubai’s Grandweld Shipyard recently celebrated the launch of the first crew boat for the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), as part of a contract for a total of ten vessels signed last March. The KOC order with Grandweld comprises four crew boats and six pilot boats, with the remaining nine boats due to be delivered by June 2019.
The new crew boat, Bahra, which has been purpose designed to meet KOC’s operational requirements, has been built to LR class and includes a number of features to provide high levels of operational efficiency and safety. It was launched two weeks ahead of schedule, Grandweld points out.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sami Al-Sawagh, Marine Operations Manager at KOC, commented: “KOC’s decision to build 10 pilot and crew boats was made at the right time, as global markets are witnessing an improvement in oil prices. Our fleet expansion will help the company benefit from the recovery.”
