Grandweld, the Dubai-based shipbuilding and repair company, celebrated its 35th anniversary in style recently, at a ceremony that was attended by several key industry players.
Speaking at the event to mark the auspicious occasion, Jamal Abki, general manager of Grandweld Shipyards said, “Though the maritime industry has faced its fair share of challenges in recent years, Grandweld has strategically manoeuvred market conditions to offer quality services to our esteemed clients. During our 35 years of existence, the company has successfully repaired thousands of ships and built 170 vessels. This is what distinguishes our company, making us one of the leading solution providers in the maritime shipping industry in the region.”
Abki noted that all the vessels built at Grandweld proudly carry a ‘Made in the UAE’ stamp, underlining its commitment to helping drive the country’s economic development goals. In addition, the yard was, he stressed, fully committed to the green agenda. He added, “Grandweld is firmly committed to preserving the environment for future generations through achieving optimum and sustainable operations.” Abki pointed out that the yard now holds a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certificate, a globally recognised symbol of achievement in terms of environmental sustainability.
Abki concluded saying, “With the help of our in-house engineering and design team, we are able to tailor quality services to all our clients. The company has been incorporating safety and sustainability measures into its business, and this has made us a favoured choice for many of the regional maritime industry’s stakeholders.”
