IEC Telecom Group, along with its partner Thuraya Telecommunications Company, announced the launch of FlexiYacht, a new solution for yacht and boat owners, at Dubai International Boat Show 2018. FlexiYacht is described as being a unique internet broadband solution designed specifically to meet the requirements of leisure boats. Powered by the compact Thuraya Orion IP terminal, it can be set up even on the smallest yachts, keeping them connected across Thuraya’s communications footprint, which covers around 60% of the world’s maritime routes.
Developed using the latest satellite communications technology for fast, long-range access, the new solution incorporates a full function Wi-Fi router as well as wired LAN and WAN ports, and is equipped with advanced reporting tools. According to Nabil Ben Soussia, managing director, IEC Telecom Middle East, “With FlexiYacht, passengers will no longer be limited to using satellite connectivity for leisure only. The solution can be customized, based on the user’s requirements and company interests, so that onboard functionality will increase exponentially, providing work stations, venues for meetings and floating mini-hotels for on the go maritime businesses.”
The device is suitable for use on all small to medium vessels, as well as yachts. Ben Soussia adds, “It is very easy to install and remove, with a very flexible tariff plan, which makes it an ideal solution for short and medium-term projects for oil supply vessels as well. It can be also adapted to fishing boats, especially those that operate seasonally.”
He continues, “The Middle East maritime market is very diverse, from regional oil-related operations to global merchant ships, and, of course, it is an increasing market for yachts and leisure boats with many new marinas in the pipeline. We are introducing this solution at an important time in the maritime sector where users are increasingly cost-conscious, and the need for quality data connectivity at affordable rates is of vital importance.
