Oman’s port of Duqm reached a significant landmark with the handling of a major out-of-gauge shipment. A 45 ton diverter damper, stowed on three flat rack containers, arrived on an MSC container vessel. The shipment was bound for the PDO Haima West Project, where a 20 MW photovoltaic combined-cycle power plant is being built.
The port of Duqm has also recently signed a land lease and terminal handling agreement with Raysut Cement Company (RCC). RCC is setting up a cement grinding facility with capacity in excess of 7 million tonnes a year within the port, with imported raw materials and exported finished products being shipped via Duqm to regional markets.
In addition, Port of Duqm has confirmed there are now two registered bunker suppliers in the port, Oman Oil and Shell. This adds to the range of services available to shipping companies calling into Duqm and is expected to further strengthen its market position.
