Delhi International Cargo Terminal (DICT) and the container shipping company, CMA CGM, have started a second weekly block train between Mundra and Sonepat. The inaugural 90 TEU capacity train departed Mundra port on February 6th in the presence of representatives of DICT, CMA CGM India and the Port Authority.
DICT started the first block train for CMA CGM in August 2019 and to date, the two companies have jointly handled 86 block trains. This second weekly block train between Mundra port and Sonepat is one of several initiatives the CMA CGM Group has implemented to boost capacity to meet its customers’ needs and make the shipping and logistics supply chain as environmentally sustainable as possible. Compared to cargo movement via truck, the block train option reduces CO2 emissions by up to 67%, the company states.
Part of the JM Baxi group, DICT is one of the largest private ICDs in India and handles around 12,000 TEU per month. DICT operates 8-9 trains a week for Mundra, 3-4 rakes per week for Pipavav and one weekly train for Kandla.
