Salalah Container Terminal Sees 21% Growth in H1 2025
Salalah Container Terminal in Oman has recorded a strong increase in container volumes during the first half of 2025. The facility, operated by APM Terminals, handled 2.03 million TEU compared to 1.68 million TEU in the same period last year, representing year-on-year growth of 21%. The rise follows an increase in vessel calls after the completion of a major terminal upgrade and the full integration of Gemini services by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, which has boosted transshipment activity at the port.
The recently completed terminal infrastructure investment has expanded annual handling capacity from 4.5 million TEU to 6 million TEU. Although ongoing Red Sea operational disruptions have temporarily affected Salalah Container Terminal’s ability to consistently meet monthly throughput targets, the expanded capacity positions the port to capture higher volumes once market conditions stabilise.
At the same time, Salalah’s General Cargo Terminal (GCT) handled 12.91 million tonnes in the first six months of 2025, up from 11.66 million tonnes in the same period of 2024, a growth rate of 11%. The increase was primarily driven by higher exports of dry bulk cargo, particularly gypsum. With volumes continuing to rise, the GCT is currently operating close to full capacity.
