Drydocks World Dubai has successfully secured a 5 star grading from the British Safety Council (BSC). The audit carried out by BSC recognises Drydocks World as a facility that goes further than the levels required to achieve compliance with legal standards and achieves the highest international best practice standards, the shipyard said.
According to a statement from Drydocks World: “Consolidating and strengthening a culture of occupational health and safety throughout the organisation is a strategic initiative designed to maintain the yard’s position as a world class facility capable of completing complex maritime infrastructure projects.” It adds that, while it is striving consistently to improve activity levels and achieve sustainable business growth, it remains committed to upholding the yard’s core values, including providing a safe work environment.
The yard achieved an audited score of 96.26%, which is claimed to be one of the highest internationally based on new BSC audit criteria. This 5 star grading reflects safety milestones achieved on some of the yard’s largest projects during 2016. Drydocks World highlights the fact that on the Johan Sverdrup riser platform cluster project for Kvaerner, the yard achieved 1 million man-hours without a lost time incident (LTI) while on the FPSO Cyrus conversion project the yard completed 2 million man-hours without LTI.
