Hutchison Ports Sohar has recently introduced a new gate system at its Oman International Container Terminal (OICT) facility.
Drivers will no longer need to leave their vehicles when arriving at the terminal, while shipping and logistics companies should benefit from easier gate transactions, the company said in a statement. The new system uses smart card technology, optical character recognition (OCR) cameras and unmanned gate kiosks to allow registered drivers to simply drive through Hutchison Ports Sohar terminal gates, with no documentation or delays.
According to Albert Pang, chief executive of Hutchison Ports Sohar, “We are continuously looking for new ways to optimise and modernise operations at our Sohar terminal. With these new technologies, we aim to benefit our stakeholders, including drivers and logistics service providers, as well as the economy of Oman. Our new automated gate system will strengthen the reputation of Sohar’s container terminal as a true world-class facility.” Hutchison Ports Sohar has promised to help ease the transition to the new system by providing training to drivers.
