The state-owned ASYAD Group is to integrate Oman Shipping Company (OSC) and Oman Drydock Company (ODC), into a single corporate entity in a bid to reduce costs and improve efficiency levels. The decision is in line with earlier actions by ASYAD, which have included amalgamating Oman National Transport Company and the National Ferries Company, and the earlier merger of Duqm Development Company into ODC. The group has also recently transferred the activities of Oman Logistics Company to a private company, which will become the master developer of Khazaen Economic City.
Engineer Abdulrahman Salim Al Hatmi, ASYAD Group chief executive, said putting the shipping and shipyard businesses together was aimed at improving economic and financial performance, ensuring commercial sustainability and agility, while contributing to the national economy. “We are striving to advance the Government’s diversification plans, increasing economic prosperity while supporting the private sector in the Sultanate,” he added.
The shipping arm of ASYAD Group, Oman Shipping Company operates a fleet of 50 vessels including LNG and LPG carriers, VLCCs, tankers, large bulk carriers and container vessels. The company also has ship management and chartering subsidiaries. Oman Drydock Company is based at the Port of Duqm and provides ship maintenance and conversion facilities for a wide range of vessels.
