Reflecting its ongoing efforts to qualify and train up Omani national staff members, Asyad Drydock recently celebrated the graduation of trainees from Duqm Industrial Training Institute (DITI) as part of the National On-the-Job Training Program run in collaboration with the country’s Department of Labor.
The six-month training program was created in response to the government’s Omanisation strategy. To prepare for employment in technical, maintenance, preventative, security, and occupational health programs, the trainees worked with an experienced team of instructors. Also, they participated in theoretical sessions that were reinforced by hands-on training at various Asyad Drydock facilities, including field exercises simulating actual ship repairs.
Dr. Ibrahim bin Bakhit Ibrahim Al Nadhairi, CEO of Asyad Shipping & Drydock, explained that “We are putting all the capabilities of our industrial training institute at the service of Omani youth. We are implementing a people strategy, which focuses on developing national talents and competencies providing them with expertise and preparing them for the work environment through a package of training programs in various disciplines relating to shipping.”
Asyad Drydock DITI provides an opportunity for Omani young people to work in marine engineering, ship building and maintenance, and other industrial sectors. The aim is to allow Asyad to develop its people and their capabilities and strengthen Oman’s position as a global logistics hub.
