APM Terminals Pipavav Signs MoU for Major Port Expansion
APM Terminals Pipavav has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Maritime Board for the proposed expansion of Pipavav Port, representing an investment of approximately US$ 2 billion. The project aims to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure by developing additional container, liquid cargo, and ro-ro handling facilities, alongside enhanced multimodal connectivity linking the port to the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the wider national hinterland.
Jon Goldner, Chief Executive, APM Terminals, Asia and Middle East, said: “This investment plan is not just about expanding Pipavav Port; it’s about unlocking new opportunities for Gujarat, for India, and for global trade. Our goal is to make Pipavav a model of world-class efficiency and green growth, while creating lasting prosperity for the local community and strengthening India’s leadership in maritime trade.”
Key investments under the plan will include expanded storage and rail siding capacity, acquisition of specialised cargo handling equipment, and the creation of deeper drafts alongside berths to accommodate larger vessels. The expansion will also feature improved multimodal transit solutions to India’s northwestern industrial hubs, as well as strategic partnerships to deliver advanced liquid, ro-ro, and bulk handling capabilities.
Once completed, the Pipavav Port expansion is expected to boost trade competitiveness, improve cargo efficiency, and support sustainable economic growth in Gujarat and across India’s logistics network.
