Sohar Port and Free Zone has entered into an agreement with UAE-based Albwardy Damen for the installation of a new ship-repair and maintenance workshop at a service jetty in the port. The workshop containers will be fitted out with machinery and tools to be able to provide ‘quick and easy’ minor ship repair services for vessels calling at the port of Sohar.
Albwardy Damen has been servicing clients at the Omani port for the past year through its Fujairah base. The company has decided that the time is right to have a physical workshop presence within the port and says that the outlook for its operation in Oman is positive.
Albwardy Damen is a joint venture between Albwardy Investment, Dubai and the Damen Shipyards Group, Holland, and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2018. The company offers a range of repair services in Sharjah, Fujairah and Dubai, catering for various vessel types.
Commenting on the importance of the agreement, Sohar Port CEO, Mark Geilenkirchen, said, “Our partnership with Albwardy Damen is a reflection of our efforts to provide all our clients with state-of-the-art and high-quality services. The new service will further enrich our offer, to ensure that we continue on our path of growth and progress.”
