Abu Dhabi Maritime, part of AD Ports Group, has demonstrated its important role in protecting the emirate’s marine environment by signing a new Memorandum of Understanding with Tadweer, the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company. Under the terms of the MoU, Abu Dhabi Maritime and Tadweer will establish a framework for exploring collaboration opportunities to ensure the waterways in Abu Dhabi are safe, clean and free from debris and obstructions, in accordance with local and international safety regulations.
Captain Saif Al Mheiri, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Maritime said: “We remain committed to sustaining the environment, ensuring that our waterways are safe and clean for all users, and we take pride in protecting marine ecosystems, leaving a positive impact on our environment for future generations.”
Abu Dhabi Maritime has also recently announced a 62% reduction in marine incidents in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2021.
As the result of an agreement between AD Ports Group and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in 2020, Abu Dhabi Maritime was established to govern the development of Abu Dhabi’s maritime sector, undertake the role of a regulatory authority, provide maritime services, and enhance the Emirate’s status as a global maritime capital.
Since its formation, Abu Dhabi Maritime has played an integral role in disseminating essential information to the maritime community and developing robust coastal and marine infrastructure. These efforts have resulted in an increase in awareness and adherence to maritime regulations, in addition to a significant decline in incidents on the waters of Abu Dhabi, with the latest figures taken during peak waterway activity.
