The well respected UK-based Tanker Shipping and Trade magazine has selected two of the region’s most prominent maritime business leaders amongst the world’s 50 most influential figures in the industry for the year 2015.
One is His Excellency, Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World who has also been recognised by Tanker Shipping & Trade as being among the top 50 most influential people. In nominating H.E. Buamim, the publication noted that after coming on board in 2010 to first rescue and then stabilise Drydocks World, he has now put the company on an even keel, and that it is winning prestigious, technically innovative and challenging projects. Special mention was made of the project championed by Buamim to convert two Aframax tankers to modular capture vessels for AET operating in the Gulf of Mexico USA.
“To be counted among such names is indeed an honour and privilege,” said Buamim, commenting on his nomination. “None of what has been achieved would have been possible without the support and direction offered to me by the wise leadership of Dubai and the UAE.”
The other is the Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC), H.E. Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah. In his case the accolade recognises the fact that KOTC has over the past 12 months received 9 new tankers including four VLCCs, four 50,000 dwt capacity medium range product tankers and a long range product carrier. The company’s fleet carried around 25 million tonnes of crude oil, oil products and liquefied petroleum gas to destinations around the world last year.
