
Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has taken delivery of the fourth and final vessel in a series of product tankers built in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The 31,445 gt Mutriba, built under Class NK rules and regulations, was officially delivered to KOTC at a ceremony held in Kuwait on 20th October 2014.
Mutriba, along with the other vessels in the series, uses the latest in environmentally-friendly technology, fitted with ballast water treatment systems to reduce emission of carbon Dioxide during carriage of Hazardous Material. The series is also the first in the world to be constructed in line with the ClassNK Guideline for Noise and Vibration, and delivered with the relevant ClassNK notations for Noise and Vibration Comfort (NVC) and Mechanical Vibration Awareness (MVA).
With the entry into service of Mutriba, KOTC’s fleet comprises 29 oil and gas tankers of various capacities. In the near future the final vessel in KOTC’s current new building programme, the VLCC Al Kout, will be handed over by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, bringing the company’s total fleet to 30 modern vessels.
All of the vessels have been built to tough environmental standards and also feature anti-piracy solutions. These include Long range Acoustic Devices, high pressure water jets, razor wire fencing, CCTV with night vision and the application of the Citadel concept.
