India-based Apollo LogiSolutions (ALS) has acquired a controlling stake in UAE-based Clarion Shipping Services. The acquisition is intended to raise Clarion’s profile across the Middle East, Africa and South East Asia, and also provide improved access to global clients, by giving it access to 20 countries where Clarion has a presence.
Raaja Kanwar, ALS’ managing director and vice chairman, described the acquisition as being a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy. “We are confident that Clarion’s strong footprint in the logistics domain will enhance our global network in the integrated logistics space,” he said. “Currently both Clarion and ALS are working towards identifying common lines of business and we hope that the resultant synergies and combined global network of this partnership will allow us to provide best in class service throughout the value chain of logistics business to our valued customers.”
Clarion’s managing director, Aniyan Kutty, is also upbeat about prospects following the deal. He says, “This investment by ALS will allow us to pursue a strategy of enhancing our capabilities and expanding our international presence, while simultaneously leveraging ALS’s customer base and process methodologies.”
Established in 2009, ALS operates a large dry port at Panvel, Mumbai, located close to India’s busiest port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. An integrated logistics solutions provider with multimodal capabilities and a wide geographical reach, ALS has achieved a relatively strong market position in a fairly short time span.
Founded in 1996 by Aniyan Kutty in the UAE, Clarion is an established logistics player in the GCC and Africa. It claims to have the single largest storage facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone and offers a range of services including LCL and FCL, import and export consolidation, land transportation, warehousing, distribution and logistics services, breakbulk, NVOCC, customs clearance and brokerage.
