A German-Omani joint venture, Omanoil Matrix Services (MXO), has taken steps to expand its offshore bunker services at the port of Sohar. The company has acquired a 6000 tonnes capacity intermediate fuel oil (IFO) barge, called Azalea, which was deployed to Sohar in August this year. The new barge will extend the company’s refueling capability so that it can reach all areas of the port.
In addition a 500 cu m capacity gas oil barge is also now able to deliver offshore bunkering support to shipping companies calling at the Omani port on request.
MXO is the only physical supplier of bunker services in the port of Sohar. The company is able to provide ships with industry standard RMG 380 and marine gas oil fuels.
Sohar Port and Freezone executive commercial manager, Edwin Lammers, has welcomed the news. He says:”MXO is one of the leading providers of refueling services and has built a global network of operations in Houston, Singapore, India, and Oman. The addition of intermediate fuel oil and gasoil barges to its fleet will give us a tremendous boost and we are naturally delighted they have chosen to do so.”
MXO, a partnership between Germany’s Matrix Marine Holding and Oman Oil, has also announced plans to extend its local operations still further. Ex-pipe fuel deliveries will soon be provided through an exclusive 43,000 cu m storage agreement with the port’s liquid bulk terminal, managed by Oiltanking Odfjell.
