Jebel Ali Port Sets Breakbulk Cargo Handling Record
DP World’s Jebel Ali Port handled 630,000 tonnes of breakbulk cargo in October 2025, marking its highest monthly total in nearly two decades. The achievement underscores a strong resurgence in regional industrial and construction activity, reinforcing Jebel Ali’s position as one of the Middle East’s most critical trade and logistics hubs.
Over the past decade, the port has seen sustained growth across container, bulk and ro-ro cargo segments. The latest surge in breakbulk traffic has been driven by increased imports of iron and steel for major UAE infrastructure projects, including the Dubai Metro Blue Line and the DWC airport expansion, alongside rising sugar exports. These trends highlight the port’s growing role in supporting national development initiatives and facilitating diversified trade flows.
After a strong 2024 performance, when breakbulk volumes rose 23% year-on-year to 5.36 million tonnes, the new record reflects continued momentum across the UAE’s expanding industrial base and its strengthening position within global supply chains.
Shahab Al Jassmi, Chief Commercial Officer, Ports & Terminals at DP World GCC, said: “This milestone reflects the confidence businesses place in Jebel Ali as the region’s most reliable gateway for cargo. The steady rise in volumes demonstrates how we are helping customers meet growing infrastructure demand while keeping supply chains efficient and resilient. As the UAE continues to invest in infrastructure, manufacturing and logistics, we remain committed to expanding our capacity, technology and sustainability initiatives to support long-term growth.”
The new milestone comes as Jebel Ali accelerates its transformation into one of the world’s most advanced multipurpose ports. Over the past decade, the port has delivered record performances across multiple cargo categories, including containers, ro-ro and bulk cargo, with breakbulk now being added to the mix as a strong element of the multi-cargo growth trends.
