The UMAR / WSR group of companies is to expand its operations into the Middle East, as well as Singapore and Russia, following the signing of cooperation agreements with two of its main principals, Lagersmit of The Netherlands and the Detyens Shipyard in the US.
Under the terms of the agreement, UMAR / WSR will represent the interests of Lagersmit in Dubai, Oman and Qatar, while it will look after the interests of Detyens in the UAE, Singapore and Russia. It already acts for both companies in Cyprus and Greece. Lagersmit is a major producer of stern tube sealing systems while Detyens is involved in ship repair, both afloat and in drydock, and vessel conversions.
Welcoming the development, Thrasos Tsangarides, group chief executive, said the news was proof that UMAR/WSR’s way of serving the market is working. “We operate a centralised operations system where we filter all market queries. This means we can offer total support to all our clients in the different countries we operate in,” he adds.
The signing of these agreements follows hot on the heels of confirmation last month that the group has received ISO certification by the ABS Group and EQA Hellas in four areas. These are: ISO 9001:2015 – Quality management, ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental management, ISO 22301:2012 – Business continuity and ISO 37001:2016 – Anti-bribery management systems.
The UMAR / WSR Group represents the interests of some of the largest equipment and service providers in the industry, focusing on drydocking and shiprepair. The company operates on a global level and now has offices in Cyprus, Greece, Russia, Singapore and the UAE.
