Construction work is now getting underway on a new specialised petrochemical terminal in Jebel Ali, for Aquachemie. It is anticipated that the new facility will be operational by mid-2022.
The AED 150 million (US$40 million) project is expected to further boost the growing petrochemical trade between manufacturers and end-users in the Middle East, while also addressing the acute shortage of bulk chemical storage facilities at Jebel Ali. The new terminal will have a total capacity of around 40,000 m3, out of which 35,000 m3 will be in bulk storage tanks and about 5,000 m3 in ISO tank containers and drums. It will be designed to store flammable chemicals, up to NFPA Class 1B, while over 100 chemicals with a UN Class3 hazardous classification, or non-hazardous chemicals, can be stored in the facility’s nitrogen blanketed tanks.
One of the key advantages of the project is its strategic location. It will be connected by four jetty pipelines and located only 500 m from Jebel Ali’s Chemical Berth 4.
