Both Dubai and Abu Dhabi ports are looking forward to seeing significant increases in cruise shipping activity over the next few months, as the regional cruise shipping season gets into full swing.
Dubai marked the start of its 2023-24 season with the arrival of Mein Schiff 2, which docked at the Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal at Mina Rashid. The facility anticipates visits by up to 150 cruise ships this season, with home-port calls by MSC Cruises, TUI Cruises, Aida Cruises, Costa Cruises and Ponant Cruises, as well as regular visits by Cunard, PO Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruises, Silversea Cruises and Cordelia Cruises, among others.
Hamza Mustafa, Chief Operating Officer, DP World, commented: “Our investment in terminal facilities at Mina Rashid underlines our commitment to supporting the sustainable growth of cruise tourism in Dubai and providing an exceptional experience to passengers from the moment they dock at our shores. Dubai has become a major port of embarkation and a popular call for cruise lines in the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf, and we expect to record another strong season, with 28% more visitors forecasted in comparison to 2022-2023.”
Meanwhile AD Ports Group has announced the official start of its 2023-2024 cruise season with the arrival of the cruise ship, Crystal Symphony, at Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal in Zayed Port. This upcoming cruise season promises significant growth with Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal due to handle 126 calls, while Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach is set to host 63 calls by cruise liners. Notably, nine of these calls will be maiden voyages, as more ships make their inaugural visit to Abu Dhabi. Indeed, Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal recently welcomed Celebrity Edge on its maiden voyage to the Arabian Gulf. Operated by Celebrity Cruises, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruises, the vessel arrived with 3,600 visitors onboard.
