The upmarket Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel on The Palm was a highly appropriate location for TMS to celebrate its first birthday on April 9th, underlining the company’s growing profile and prestige within the industry. Managing director, Trevor Pereira, and TMS newsletter editor, Clive Woodbridge, were joined by around 100 specially invited guests to mark the occasion. Chief Guest was H.E. Salem Ali Al Zaabi, chairman of United Arab Shipping Company, who warmly praised the maturity of such a young company. Other attendees included representatives of DNV GL Maritime, DP World, Dubai Trading Agency, Middle East Marine, Islamic P&I Club and Sharjah Ports Authority. In his speech Trevor highlighted the achievements that the company had made in its first year, with the launch of the TMS newsletter and the holding of the first TMS Awards. He paid tribute to the hard work and professionalism of his team, and thanked those who had helped the company on its way, including H.E. Khamis Buamim, the outgoing chairman of Drydocks World Dubai. Clive revealed that TMS online subscriptions had now reached 25,000, a remarkable achievement in such a short space of time, and announced that an exciting new conference, TMS Ship Finance and Trade, was being organised and would take place on 29th and 30th November at the Park Hyatt in Abu Dhabi. Top speakers are being lined up, he said, and the event will kick off with a networking event on the evening of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix. The 2nd Annual Maritime Standard Awards will be held on Monday 9th November 2015, once again at the iconic Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. Building on the achievements of the inaugural Awards, this year promises to be bigger and better still, with close to 800 guests likely to attend. Trevor adds, “All the top names and personalities will be there, providing unrivalled opportunities for networking. The Awards give the industry a fantastic showcase and I am very proud of what my team has achieved over the past year in delivering that increased profile.” As well as running the TMS Awards, Flagship Events has built up a thriving third party events business. Over the past 12 months the company has organised and run events around the BIMCO AGM, which was held in Dubai last April; and celebratory events to mark 150 years of the classification society, DNV GL, and the 10th anniversary of the Islamic P&I Club.
