Tasneef, the UAE classification society established in 2012, has secured important backing from the Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC). The port operator has transferred its fleet of tugs, operated by subsidiary ADPC Marine Services, to Tasneef, giving it the authority to inspect and confirm that the vessels adhere to international technical standards. The classification society will carry out regular surveys of the vessels to make sure they continue to comply.
Each of the tugs operated by ADPC will be covered by Tasneef classification for five years, under the terms of the contracts that were signed recently. ADPC Marine plans to increase its tug fleet in the near future and has expressed its intention to register any additional vessels with Tasneef as well. Hamad Al Magrabi, general manager of ADPC Marine Services, says,”We work hard to deliver professional, timely and safe integrated marine services to all users of our ports. We are keen to support Tasneef and are confident that the company will provide the services and expertise that we need to a very high standard.”
ADPC Marine Services, which was set up in March 2013, has a fleet of eight tug boats, capable of manoeuvring all vessels visiting the ADPC’s ports, as well as four pilot boats, six speedboats and one buoy maintenance craft.
Tasneef is confident that this important new business will encourage other local shipping and port ventures to follow suit. According to Eng. Rashed Al Hebsie, chief executive officer,”We hope that other national companies will take the same steps as ADPC by registering and classifying their ships in the UAE.”
