
A delegation from the Federal Transport Authority – Land & Maritime (FTA) recently visited Abu Dhabi Ports to learn more about the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy and its various programs. Led by HE. Eng Ahmed Mohammed Shareef Al Khoori, General Director of FTA the delegation also included Dr. Aisha Al Busmait, IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador. The FTA group were received by Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamsi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports; Capt. Abdulkareem Al Masabi, Executive Vice-President of Abu Dhabi Ports; and Captain Maktoum Al Houqani, Managing Director, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy.
During the visit, Capt. Al Shamsi highlighted the Academy’s role in enhancing the maritime sector’s contribution to promoting growth, by qualifying and equipping cadets and other maritime trainees with the relevant skills and knowledge that are necessary to meet the sector’s immediate and future need for expertise.
During its visit to the Academy, the delegation was briefed on its advanced and specialised teaching and training equipment and tools, including simulators that mimic real work environments, in order to equip candidates with hands-on expertise and knowledge needed to operate efficiently in actual work scenarios. A detailed explanation of the educational programs and courses accredited by the FTA, the Maritime Agency and the Coast Guard of the United Kingdom, the International Association of Navigational Aid and Lighthouses, and the Lloyd’s Register was also presented before the delegation.
HE. Eng Ahmed Mohammed Shareef Al Khoori praised the efforts of Abu Dhabi Ports and its contributions to the development of the maritime sector in the UAE. He pointed out that the FTA’s interest and support for the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy stems from its importance in providing the market with specialised human resources capable of leading the UAE’s maritime sector.
