Stena Bulk, through its affiliates Stena Weco and Golden Stena Weco, is opening a new office in Dubai and will move in later this month. An official inauguration is planned to take place in January next year. The company already has a presence in the market in the region but says it wants to get closer to its customers in order to continue to develop the transportation of chemicals and petroleum products.
“Generally speaking, Dubai is an important meeting place for the oil industry as well as being situated strategically close to Iran, which is now beginning to open up to increased trade,” says Erik Hånell, president and chief executive, Stena Bulk. “Stena’s tanker business already has a presence in the area with contacts in the neighbouring region but the office will make even closer contacts possible with customers, partners and suppliers.”
Stena Bulk and Stena Weco are both focusing increasingly on the chemicals trade, for which Dubai is a strategic hub. There will be room for up to 15 persons in the new office, which is located in Almas Tower, JLT. The office is being started up with a staff of three headed by Aayush Giri as general manager.
Stena Weco is jointly owned (50-50) by Swedish Stena Bulk and Denmark’s Weco Shipping, while Golden Stena Weco is a joint venture between Stena Weco and Golden Agri-Resources. With the addition of the office in Dubai, Stena Bulk now conducts business in six countries. In addition to Dubai, it has offices in Houston, Copenhagen, Singapore and Shanghai, with its head office is in Gothenburg.
