
Significant investments to enhance and expand the shiprepair capacity of Dubai Maritime City have been completed. Infrastructure works have included a retrofit of DMC’s ship lifts, the introduction of new ship cradles and power supply improvements. As a result, DMC now has upgraded 6000 tonnes and 3000 tonnes capacity ship lifts, more than doubling its capacity from 400 to 1000 vessels per year and enabling the facility to handle larger and more complex shiprepair projects.
So far in 2024, DMC has docked 296 vessels. This represents a 16 % increase in dry berth occupancy compared to the same period last year.
The completion of the works was marked with an inauguration ceremony presided over by Ahmed Al Hammadi, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Maritime City, and Nils Rolland, Chief Operating Officer, Syncrolift. The event was attended by senior management from Syncrolift, DP World, and Dubai Maritime City, including Abdulla Al Hashmi, Chief Operating Officer, Parks and Zones at DP World GCC.

Additionally, Syncrolift signed a comprehensive service agreement with DMC for the maintenance of DMC’s two shiplifts and 42 dry berth sets of transfer systems. Under the terms of the agreement, Syncrolift will implement innovative maintenance control systems designed to support the continuous servicing of shiplifts and transfer systems.
“We will gradually integrate digital solutions that provide real-time access to operational conditions. This will enhance visibility and enable predictive maintenance, ultimately reducing downtime and labour costs. It will be a kind of Syncrolift digital twin for repair yards,” says Romar Halvorsen, global service director at Syncrolift.
