Trafigura Group, one of the world’s leading independent commodity trading and logistics companies, has announced plans for a second LNG facility in Pakistan’s Port Qasim. This follows hard on the heels of the inauguration of Pakistan GasPort Ltd (PGPL)’s new LNG floating storage and regasification import terminal at Port Qasim, in which Trafigura is a minority investor.
The new terminal will more than double Pakistan’s current LNG regasification capacity, and will be able to supply 90 million cubic feet of gas to private buyers in Pakistan a day. However, even after the new terminal reaches full capacity a significant supply shortfall of the order of 19 million tonnes of LNG per annum is expected. To meet this demand Trafigura has decided to develop a second LNG import terminal project. The project will include a new jetty, berth and a FSRU, and is expected to benefit from cost synergies with the existing facility.
