Gulftainer, claimed to be the world’s largest privately-owned independent port operator, recently welcomed the containership MAG Pearl, operated by MAG Container Lines (MCL), on its maiden call at Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT). This was UAE-based Gulftainer’s third new service in its home market to date in 2019.
MAG Pearl offers a direct service between Sharjah’s Port Khalid and the Port of Abu Al Fulus in Iraq. The new service continues Gulftainer’s close working relationship with MCL, which has called at its terminals in the UAE for over 15 years.
Gulftainer has continued to invest to consolidate SCT’s position as a gateway port. Recent upgrades at the terminal have included the expansion of its full container storage yard by over 17%.
Other maiden calls at SCT this year have included Port Klang, which commenced a direct express service between Sharjah’s Port Khalid and the Kandla, Hazira and Nhava Sheva ports in India while the GALEX service has started to call at the Khorfakkan Container Terminal, linking North/South East Asia, India and the Middle East with a weekly sailing schedule and competitive transit times.
