The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has added another Suezmax tanker to its fleet of 69 vessels. The company has acquired a 2007-built 158,000 dwt vessel, named Desh Abhimaan, from Fidelity Shipping, and it is now the largest within SCI’s Suezmax fleet.
The acquisition takes the SCI fleet up to 70 ships, including VLCCs, product tankers, bulk carriers, containerships, fast tankers and offshore vessels. The combined size of the fleet is now over 6 million dwt for the first time.
SCI has also recently acquired a second hand multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV), adding to its offshore vessel fleet. The company says it plans to continue its foray into fleet expansion by making further second hand purchases to take advantage of prevailing low asset prices.
