Visakha Container Terminal (VCT) at Vizag port in India is to be equipped with advanced technology container scanners, to ensure high levels of security and safety as cargo volumes through the port continue to rise. VCT says the technology will offer more robust safety and security and is aimed at preventing wrong declarations and smuggling.
Compared to manual methods of unloading and inspecting containers, the new scanners will be more efficient, offering a non-intrusive and a ‘non-stop’ way of working. Consequently it is expected that the drive-through operation will save VCT a lot of time and money.
The container scanners will be mounted in an elevated location and will be equipped with a U-shaped arm and high-resolution cameras. The technology will be integrated with Customs software and based on risk parameters images generated by the scanner will be examined by staff.
