
Neptune Lines of Greece, a specialist in providing transportation solutions for manufacturers and shippers of vehicles and high and heavy cargo, has marked the official launch of its new ro-ro service in the Middle East.
Speaking at a reception in Dubai held to celebrate the occasion, Neptune’s president and chief executive officer, Melina Travlos, said: “We are creating a sea bridge dedicated to the automotive trade, servicing the Emirati ports as well as the ports of Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Iran. This aims to boost and facilitate the trading of vehicles, offering solutions for reliable, on-time deliveries.”
The new Neptune Lines service is supported by NMT Shipping, acting as commercial agents in the region, and is scheduled to connect the UAE ports of Jebel Ali and Khalifa to the ports of Shuwaikh (Kuwait) and Umm Qasr (Iraq), as well as Bandar Abbas (Iran), Sohar (Oman), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Hamad (Qatar) and Khalifa Bin Salman (Bahrain). According to demand, and subject to availability, the new service will also call at other ports on an inducement basis.
Neptune Lines’ operations in the region will be headed by Markos Vassilikos, based in Dubai. Mr. Vassilikos has previously served as general manager of Neptune Lines in Greece, and was managing director of Maran Tankers. As such, he is someone with significant experience of the shipping industry generally and the Neptune Lines business in particular.
